Attack at the journalists of 112 Ukraine TV channel is the result of the general atmosphere of harassment of the press in Ukraine, which was started by the politicians as Serhiy Tomilenko, the Head of the National Union of the Journalists of Ukraine stated after the attack at 112 Ukraine crew in Kharkiv region.
“We condemn this brutal attack at the journalists of 112 Ukraine as well as we react and consider any beating of the journalists in Ukraine as unacceptable,” he stated.
Tomilenko noted that the systematic impunity of those who attack the journalists led to the attacks on air. According to him, the union regularly monitors the investigation of the cases on the attacks at the mass media and press and there was no real punishment for it.
“The general atmosphere of fear or concern toward the journalists, harassment on the social networks by the politicians is converted to the fact that woodmen when they saw the journalists, were not stopped neither by camera nor by broadcasting,” he noted.
“The culture of humiliation and disrespect leads to the fact that the potential attackers understand that the journalist in Ukraine, unfortunately, are defenseless,” Tomilenko concluded.
The unknown thugs attacked the production unit of 112 Ukraine TV channel; the team was filming a story about illegal production of lumber. The car of the unit was blocked and the wheels got flat. Journalist Oleg Reshetnyak was beaten; the ambulance was called.
Police of Kharkiv region put the data on the on preventing of professional activity of the journalists to the United pretrial investigation register.
