Ukraine's Armed Forces unit completes NATO certification

This was the first time in history when the unit of the state which is not a NATO member completed certification as a SOF unit

The 140th Centre of Special Operations Command of Ukraine has complete certification as SOF unit and has a right to be involved in NATO Response Force, as Ukraine’s Military Portal informed referring to Armed Forces General Staff.

It was noted that this was the first time in history when the unit of the state which is not a NATO member completed certification as a SOF unit. NATO Response Force (NRF) were created at NATO November Summit in 2002 in Prague to replace interallied command of Europe with mobile force. Fist talks on the reorganization of NATO mobile forces were held in August 2002 in Warsaw under the initiative of the US. Defence Minister Donald Rumsfeld.

Response Forces are always placed on ready alert. They consist of ground troops, special forces, air power, navy and are ready to carry out evacuation or response operation to crisis situations in all the parts of the world. The forces must deter the enemy in a small conflict within up to 30 days till the main forces come.

North Atlantic Council decided on the use of Response Forces.
