The law Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act was signed today by the US President Donald Trump. It includes allotting 30 mln USD for supporting the energy security of Ukraine, as the Embassy of Ukraine in the USA informed on Facebook.
“The law provides for the creation of the Countering Russian Influence Fund, and allocation of 250 mln USD into its budget for fiscal years 2018 and 2019. 30 mln USD is allotted for supporting Ukraine’s energy security,” the message informs.
The Embassy reminded that, according to the law, the support for the Sovereignty, Integrity, Democracy, and Economic Stability of Ukraine is a part of the US policy, as well as condemning and opposing all of the destabilizing efforts by the Government of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, and never recognizing the illegal annexation of Crimea by the Government of the Russian Federation, or the separation of any portion of Ukrainian territory through the use of military force.
The document also provides for the US assistance in promoting reform in regulatory oversight and operations in Ukraine’s energy sector, helping Ukraine and United States allies and partners in Europe reduce their dependence on Russian energy resources, and continuing to oppose the NordStream 2 pipeline.
As it was reported earlier, the bill includes both individual and sectorial sanctions against Russia, Iran, North Korea, and enshrines the already existing restrictions. It also deprives the US president of the right to cancel the sanctions without the approval from the Congress. Russia responded with reducing the diplomatic presence of the US in their country.
