The workers of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) served charges and detained Hennady Trukhanov, the Mayor of Odesa on February 14. Oleg Slobodyan, the Assistant of Chairman of State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported this to 112 Ukraine.

'Today the border guards fulfilled the order of the law enforcement body towards this person, informed the initiator and then the prosecutors of the NABU arrived who served the charges on him', Slobodyan noted.

The NABU confirmed that Trukhanov was served charges and his detention at the interview to Ukrainian News.

'Trukhanov arrived from Warsaw (Poland) to Boryspil Airport where he was detained by the border guards and transferred to the NABU detectives. At the moment, Trukhanov is transported to the building of the NABU for the questioning', the NABU noted.

Also, Mustafa Nayyem, the Ukrainian MP published the information on the detention of Trukhanov at the airport.

'Hennady Trukhanov, the Mayor of Odesa was detained at Boryspil Airport by the workers of the NABU. He was not present at his workplace for 50 days since December 26, 2017', Nayyem posted on Facebook.

Earlier the press service of the Odesa City Council reported that Trukhanov went to the Czech Republic for the business trip.

The NABU detectives under the guidance of the prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office served charges on Trukhanov due to the suspect of the embezzlement through the malpractice. Moreover, three people were detained on the same criminal proceeding.

The NABU began the investigation in November 2016 on the purchase of the former plant 'Krayan' at an overvalued price by the city council. According to the bureau, the building was sold for $149, 080 in the beginning of 2016 and the Mayor office of Odesa purchased it in September 2016 for $ 6.9 million.

It was planned to transfer to the plant all structural departments of the Mayor office that are scattered over Odesa.

Trukhanov was questioned as the witness in this case by NABU in October 2017. In January 2018, MP of the Odesa City Council and his accomplice were served charges on the attempt of the bribe in the sum $500, 000 to the worker of the NABU to lift the arrest of the assets.
