Anti-corruption bureau detains head of Chornomorsk seaport on $250,000 bribe

On December 10, the detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) detained head of Chornomorsk seaport on a $250,000 bribe as the NABU reported.

“On December 10, 2020, the detectives of the National Bureau under the procedural direction of SAPO (Specialized Anti-Corruption Bureau) found in extortion and obtaining unlawful benefit in the sum of $250,000  head of Chornomorsk seaport and person-facilitator,” the message says.

According to the detectives, the director of the port demanded remuneration for the agreement of the financial recovery plan of the bankrupt private company.

“This company held talks with private investors. However, their involvement demanded the agreement of the creditors’ committee. That is why the head of the seaport understood that the purpose of one of the investors was serious and demanded from him the payment for ‘loyalty’, estimating it in $250,000,” the bureau said.

Two persons of interest were detained in order of detention article by an authorized official.

As we reported, the Pechersk district court of Kyiv chose a restriction measure for those suspected in taking a bribe from an entrepreneur. The culprits will be staying in custody, with the opportunity to be released on bail.
