The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has completed an investigation into the theft of 3.2 million hryvnias ($121,000) worth of grain in the Sumy region, the NABU press center reports.

"On November 16, 2021, NABU and SAPO completed an investigation into the possible waste of grain by officials of the State Reserve Agency of Ukraine in the amount of over 3.2 million hryvnias [$121,000]," the statement reads.

It is noted that there are three suspects in the case: the head of one of the branches of the Okhtyrka bread factory of the State Reserve Agency of Ukraine; head of the production and technical laboratory of the branch of the Okhtyrka bread factory of the State Reserve; head of the elevator branch of the Okhtyrka bread factory of the State Reserve.

All were informed of the suspicion under Part 5 of Art. 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ("Waste of property through abuse of office").

According to the investigation, in November 2020, the head of the branch illegally and free of charge shipped sunflower seeds stored in this branch to other private entities. Thus, over 189 tons of sunflower seeds worth UAH 3.2 million ($121 thousand) were wasted.

Subsequently, NABU reported suspicion of waste of grain to the head of the branch of the Okhtyrka bread factory of the State Reserve.

Investigators then identified two more suspects in the case. They turned out to be officials of the Okhtyrka bread factory: head of the production and technical laboratory of the branch and head of the elevator of the branch.
