The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has closed the criminal proceeding against Mayor of Odesa Henadiy Trukhanov as the article “illicit enrichment” was recognized unconstitutional as the NABU reported.
“Contrary to the moral conviction, the NABU detectives have begun to close the criminal cases based on “illicit enrichment” article to implement the decision of the Constitutional Court, which legalized the illicit enrichment in Ukraine in fact. The cases on the illicit enrichment of the official and judges and Odesa Mayor are among the closed cases,” the message said.
The NABU detectives under the guidance of the prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office served charges on Trukhanov due to the suspect of the embezzlement through the malpractice. Moreover, three people were detained on the same criminal proceeding.
The court released Trukhanov on the parole of Dmytro Golubov, the MP of Ukraine. Before this, the clashes near the court took place,38 people were detained.
On February 26, the Court of Appeal of Kyiv has left without changes the preventive measure against Mayor of Odesa. This way, MP Dmytro Golubov stands bail for him.
Besides, the NABU explained that the decision of Ukraine’s Constitutional Court to recognize the article of the Criminal Code on the illicit enrichment unconstitutional means that all criminal proceeding should be closed by the detectives or prosecutors.
