Ukraine's Anti-Corruption Bureau closes case against Foreign Intelligence Service senior official

The case was closed based on the decision of the Constitutional Court, which canceled the criminal responsibility for the illicit enrichment

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has closed the criminal proceeding on the illicit enrichment of Serhiy Semochko, the First Deputy Head of Foreign Intelligence Service, as Ukrainian News reported.

“The case of Semochko is closed,” the source said.

It is noted that the case was investigated due to illicit enrichment. The case was closed based on the decision of the Constitutional Court, which canceled the criminal responsibility for the illicit enrichment.

In November 2018, the NABU opened the criminal proceeding due to the illicit enrichment of Serhiy Semochko, the ex-Head of Chief Department of the Security Service in Kyiv and Kyiv region and First Deputy Head of Foreign Intelligence Service.

NABU opened a criminal proceeding under the article on illicit enrichment as a result of a journalistic investigation against Serhiy Semochko.

Earlier, on October 1, the results of the journalist investigation were presented, according to which Semochko owns expensive houses in Kozyn, an elite area near Kyiv, and Land Cruiser. Besides, as a result of his actions, 200 people died because of the absence of medicine for dialysis.

Later the counterintelligence of Ukraine’s Security Service confirmed the Russian citizenship of common-law wife of First Deputy Head of Foreign Intelligence Service Serhiy Semochko.
