The employees of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) chased cars of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). The Bureau stated that detained ex-judge Mykola Chaus was in one of the cars. The NABU published a video of chasing on Facebook.
The Bureau stated that the detectives identified the cars with the SBU employees who transferred Chaus; however, the SBU employees ignored the demands of the NABU detectives to stop and pass the suspect.
According to the NABU, Chaus was delivered to Volodymyrska Street, 33. The Office of the SBU is situated there.
“We underline that according to the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine, the authorized official should transfer the suspect to the near unit of the body of the pretrial investigation. The law enforcers will observe the law and will pass the suspect wanted by the detectives to the authorized representatives of the National Bureau,” the message says.
Earlier, it was reported that former judge Mykola Chaus kidnapped in Moldova was found only underpants in the village of Mazurivka, Vinnytsa region not far from the border with Moldova. When Chaus arrived in the police unit, he reported that hew as abducted by unknowns.
According to the lawyer of the judge, he did not get in touch with Chaus as he was taken to Kyiv.
Later, the NABU made it clear that Chaus was detained. However, nobody contacted with the detectives to pass them the suspect.
On April 3, it was reported that Ukrainian ex-judge Mykola Chaus was kidnapped in Chisinau, Moldova. The relevant information was confirmed by the Chisinau police, and also the lawyer of Chaus Iulian Balan informed about it. According to the lawyer, a group of unidentified armed men kidnapped a Ukrainian judge in the center of Chisinau.
On April 5, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and the National Police of Ukraine denied their involvement in the kidnapping of Ukrainian ex-judge Mykola Chaus in Moldova and his deportation to Ukraine.
Later, it was reported that the Ukrainian intelligence and law enforcement bodies might be involved in the kidnapping of Mykola Chaus.
A month after the abduction, Chaus got in touch. He recorded a video in which he stated that he was kidnapped in 2016. Besides, Chaus promised to return to Ukraine soon.
Meanwhile, on May 19, ex-judge published the second video. He also stated that he is ready to provide materials about his “kidnappers”. However, he passed records to “his friends” for further publication. Chaus made such a step as people involved in his abduction are very affluent.
In August 2016, Chaus was caught on bribery - he demanded and received money in the amount of $ 150 thousand.
