An-12 crash in Lviv region: Police open criminal proceeding

National Police in Lviv region opened the criminal proceeding due to the emergency landing of An-12 aircraft, which occurred 1.5 km from the airstrip of Lviv International Airport. It led to the deaths of five people; three persons were hospitalized in serious condition as the police reported.

“Preliminary, it is established that in the result of the emergency landing of An-12, five people died, and another three were hospitalized with bodily injuries. The law enforcers identify the deceased and affected and establish the circumstances of the incident. The criminal proceeding is opened due to the violation of the safety rules of movement or exploitation of railway, water or air transport,” the message said.

The investigative group and employees of other detachments of Lviv police work at the site.

As we reported the damaged plane made an emergency landing not far from Lviv as Lviv City Council reported. Antonov An-12 landed near the cemetery in Sokilnyky. The transport plane An-12 disappeared from the radar during the line up for landing not far from International Airport Lviv.

Later, Ukraine’s Infrastructure Minister Vladyslav Krykliy reported that five people perished in the plane crash in Lviv region, western Ukraine.

Deputy Infrastructure Minister of Ukraine Yuriy Laverenyuk stated that the crash could take place due to the mistake of the pilot or run out of fuel.
