American diplomat beaten up at Maidan

The police opened the criminal proceeding due to this incident

The law enforcers investigate the infliction of the bodily harm to the foreign diplomat. The incident took place at night of November 3 at the Maidan as the press service of the National police in Kyiv reported.

The security service of one of the embassies sent a message to the police dispatch center of Kyiv at 10:00 on Sunday. It was reported to the law enforcers that the worker of the embassy was beaten up by the unknowns at Maidan Nezalezhnosti. The police officers of the Shevchenkivsky district responded to the call.

The victim is the second secretary of the US Embassy to Ukraine Omar Cardentey as Obozrevatel reported citing the source.

Head of the National police of Shevchenkivsky district Ihor Padyuk explained.

'40-years old victim said that he made for the fast food café and listened to the music. When he came out of the pedestrian subway the unknown possibly told him something. The foreigner began to get out his earphones and was punched in the face'.

The security service of the embassy recommended him to report to the police on the incident.

The information on the incident was put on the Unified register of the pretrial investigation under the article 125 (Intense infliction of the bodily harm) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The police establish all circumstances and grounds of the incident within the criminal proceeding, look through the recordings from the video cameras and search for the evidence and malefactor.
