Kay Bailey Hutchison, the U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO claimed that NATO is interested in the membership of Ukraine in the alliance. She claimed this during Kyiv Security Forum as Ukrainian News reported.

‘We want Ukraine to become a member of the alliance, I assure you’, Hutchison claimed.

According to her, the fact that Ukraine fulfills the annual national plans is a good way to the membership. She also noted that the strengthening of the cooperation of Ukraine with NATO can provoke a negative reaction of Russia.

‘In the case with Montenegro, we saw that Russia becomes quite aggressive when the countries begin to join NATO’, Hutchison said.

The U.S. Permanent Representative added that usually, Russia resorts to the methods of hybrid and cyber wars and destabilization of other states, attempting to change their attitude to the joining of the alliance.

As we reported on March 10, the NATO admitted Ukraine’s aspirations to obtain full membership in the Alliance and gave it a NATO aspirant status.
