Acting commander who ignored takeover of military unit under house arrest

The court decided not to keep the officer at a detention facility

Prymorsky district court of Odesa held a hearing on the preventive measure for the Acting Commander of the military unit, who on October 29 didn’t react to the attempt of a takeover, according to Ukrinform.

The court decided to put the official under 24-hour house arrest for two months. The request from the investigator of the military prosecution to put him into a detention facility wasn’t granted.

At the moment the lieutenant colonel is suspected of willful failure of a military official to act in accordance with his/her official duties in the state of martial law or battle, which is punishable by imprisonment for 7 up to 10 years.

As it was reported earlier, about 40 people attempted to raid and to seize part of the territory of  military facility in Odesa, which is the property of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. 

The raiders claimed they were representatives of the City Center Shopping and Entertainment complex. People in balaclavas partially dismantled the fence of the military unit A3571 and took out military property.
