88,000 tons of ammunition located in burning ammo depot in Ukraine's Ichnia

A fire started in the 6th armory of Ukraine’s Defence Ministry in Chernihiv region on Tuesday. The armory comprises around 88,000 tons of ammunition, as the press office of State Emergency Service reported.

“The area of the 6th armory is around 682,6 hectares, 402 of which – is a technical territory. 88,000 tons of ammunition is being located on the warehouse,” the message says.

Yet, the Defence Ministry did not confirm this figure.

As at 9 am, explosions on the armory continue occurring.

Chernihiv Region State Administration informed there was no chemical weapon in the warehouse.

Reportedly, the Military Prosecutor’s Office of the Central Region opened a criminal proceeding on the case of explosions on the ammunition depot in Ichnia.

Earlier, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko will hear the report of the military and security forces due to the explosions in the 6th ammunition depot in Ichnia. 

Reportedly, an explosion on the sixth armoury occurred in Ichnia, Chernihiv region.

The air-space within 30 km is shut down, traffic and railway movement are stopped due to the emergency situation.

Ukraine’s Defence Ministry reports that as of 7 am the intensity of the explosions is 2-3 explosions per second.
