As of October 1, 2018, 56 journalists were murdered because of their profession, as Reporters Sans Frontieres informed.
This figure exceeded the index of 2017. Then, the human rights activists reported on the death of 55 correspondents.
The data of 2017 was the lowest over the past 14 years, yet, 2018 changed the statistics of the reduction of death toll among the journalists.
According to the organization, more than a half of the reporters died in combat operational zone in 2018. Afghanistan was recognized as the most dangerous region, 13 journalists were killed there.
Also, media workers were murdered in Yemen, Somali, Pakistan, and Syria.
Reportedly, a Bulgarian journalist Viktoria Marynova was murdered. Before, she worked on a theft of European Union funds.
Earlier, a journalist Yan Kuchak and his girlfriend were killed in their house Veľká Mača, Slovakia. The professional occupation of the journalist could be the motive of the crime – his investigation of the Italian mafia activity on the East of the country in particular.
