The child was hospitalized in a serious condition on August 27. The girl had shortness of breath, fever and intoxication.
“The child was admitted with respiratory failure and was hospitalized in the intensive care unit of anesthesiology,” Kaminska said.
The doctor explained that the girl had severe respiratory distress syndrome, a condition in which the oxygen cannot get into the blood through the lungs.
The child and mother were both later diagnosed with Covid-19. The child was taken to hospital on the 5th day of the illness.
According to Kaminska, the mother contracted coronavirus disease a week after discharge from the hospital.
“The girl was intubated the same day, immediately connected to artificial ventilation, received examination and treatment according to our local protocol for the care of patients with Covid-19, but despite this her condition progressively deteriorated, and she died on September 2,” chief physician says.
As it was reported earlier, the Covid-19 incidence grows in Ukraine. 3,663 new cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Ukraine during the past 24 hours.
