147 cases of infection with the Delta strain of coronavirus are officially confirmed in Ukraine as Ukrayinske Radio reported citing Chief Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Ihor Kuzin.

“The situation deteriorates all over the country gradually. Every day we observe +10-15 new cases of the disease. In fact, it is quite a risky situation as it deteriorates in each region of the country, and outbreaks can be expected not only in particular regions but anywhere. Concerning the Delta strain, a few weeks ago we talked about 17 cases. Currently, we have 147 confirmed cases at the level of the country. In other words, the strain stays in the territory of Ukraine and it is spreading,” Kuzin said.

According to him, the new strain mostly spreads in Volyn, Odesa, Ternopil, Chernivtsi regions, and in Kyiv.

The sanitary doctor noted that Delta spreads faster than the usual virus. It leads to hospitalization more often.

“However, there are positive moments: vaccination protects from Delta. We have unique reports on the decrease of efficiency of the vaccine but this decrease is not significant. Even during the outbreak of Delta strain in different countries, vaccinated people were not hospitalized and countries with the proper level of the vaccination succeeded to avoid such extra load on the health system,” the sanitary doctor added.
