“We are planning a program for the construction of 14 power units and two new sites in Ukraine," Kotin said.
According to the head of Energoatom, the third power unit will be completed at the Khmelnytsky NPP and two new units will be built from scratch. One more power unit will be built at the Rivne, South Ukraine, and Zaporizhia nuclear power plants.
As it was reported, Ukraine will build nuclear power units using the AP1000 technology of the American company Westinghouse. The third power unit at the Khmelnytsk station will be completed by 2025, two more power units using Westinghouse technology are planned to be built in 2028-2029. Power units at the rest of the NPPs will be built after 2034.
Kotin stressed that Ukraine does not plan to decommission the existing power units, the service life of which could be extended.
"15 power units will reach 60 years of operation at the turn of 2040. Until that time, we need to have replacement capacities,” Kotin said.
The head of Energoatom noted that there is the clarity with the financing of construction. In particular, the construction of units at the Khmelnytsky NPP can be financed by the Export-Import Bank, with which there is a preliminary agreement. Earlier it was reported that the estimated cost of construction of five power units, which Ukraine plans to build using Westinghouse technology, will amount to $30 billion.
Besides, Energoatom has its own funds for the implementation of investment projects.
"We will end the year with a profit. A record level of taxes will be paid. Our situation is stable, and we will be able to finance investment plans,” Kotin said.
Kotin said that Energoatom also plans to build the Voznesensk HPP in Ukraine in two years.
As we reported, Westinghouse (USA) and NNEGC Energoatom signed two cooperation agreements providing for the start of projects for the construction of two new power units at the Khmelnytsky NPP using AP1000 technology.
Earlier it was reported that in February 2022, for the first time in history, all 15 power units of Ukrainian nuclear power plants will operate simultaneously.
