112 Ukraine TV channel brings a case before a court against the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine. The TV channel’s lawyers filed an application to the Kyiv county administrative court. The reason is the decision taken by the regulator to re-issue the broadcasting license only conditionally.
The lawyers of 112 Ukraine believe that the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council should either have satisfied the re-issuing license or to reject the application. The broadcaster received the new requirements instead.
The TV channel has repeatedly reported the attempts by the National Television and Radio Broadcasting Council of Ukraine to put pressure in favor of certain political-financial groups.
112 Ukraine TV channel was supported by Ukrainian and international politicians and experts, calling the Council’s actions the attack on freedom of speech in Ukraine.
According to Vasil Smetana, the lawyer of 112 Ukraine TV channel, all the lawsuits are being filed to the court in order to further apply to the European Court of Human Rights.
“We do not believe we can get just and true decision any more. All the lawsuits are being filed to the court in order to further apply to the European Court of Human Rights. The requirements presented by the National Council are factitious and illegal, and we've been through this a year ago. I am sure they are not going to end in the nearest future, because they are politically motivated,” the lawyer announced.
