We think that under the guise of combating with enemy propaganda and beautiful slogans on protection of the information space the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine is again trying to create conditions for introduction of political censorship and pressure on media during the elections.
The absence of clear criteria for determining media, which might be subjected to sanctions, basically give the Ukrainian people’s deputies unlimited power to interfere in media activity, based solely on their own political will.
We also inform that the petition on prevention of suppression of freedom of speech in Ukraine and imposition of sanctions against 112 Ukraine and NewsOne, which was published on the website of President’s Administration, got 23,731 signatures as of November 14, which is almost 25,000 signatures required.
Considering the mentioned, we demand:
- to withdraw the bill on amending some Ukraine’s laws on protection of the information space No.9275;
- to consider the petition on prevention of suppression of freedom of speech in Ukraine and imposition of sanctions against 112 Ukraine and NewsOne after it reached 25,000 signatures;
- to prevent imposition of sanctions on media station under the proposal presented in Verkhovna Rada’s regulation on approval of the proposals on imposition of personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) as of October 4, 2018.
