Six people will enter the editorial board. Particularly, three representatives of the 112 Ukraine TV Channel management: Chief Producer Artem Marchevskyi, Director General Yehor Benkendorf and international journalist Oleh Voloshyn. Besides, the representatives of Taras Kozak, the owner of the TV channel, particularly, three MEPs Nathan Gill, Arne Gericke and David Coburn will become the members of the board.
Owner of 112 Ukraine and NewsOne Taras Kozak commented on this event “Today the critical situation with the freedom of speech occurred in Ukraine. The authority tries to close the unloyal TV channels: it is about the attacks on the journalists, interference in the editorial policy of the TV channels and voting at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, where they voted for the implementation of the sanctions against 112 Ukraine and NewsOne. When I was thinking about the purchase of the TV channels, the decision to protect the TV channels at all costs was made. And I appealed to the MPs of the European Parliament, who are well aware of the issue of the freedom of speech in Ukraine and came to Kyiv, studied the issue of the TV channels, visited the National Council, visited officials but did not receive any reply. I am very grateful to Nathan, Arne and David, who have agreed today to be the members of the editorial board of both TV channels. They will help to protect our interests, talk about freedom of speech issue in Ukraine. Today, the first editorial council was held. We came with the representatives of our channels for the first editorial council within the European Parliament; we will talk about our issues, determine the strategy of the TV channels, development and assume all measures to make freedom of speech be in Ukraine”.
Member of the European Parliament Nathan Gill: “It is an honor for me to participate in this board as the freedom of speech is crucially important. It is important for TV channels to correspond to European standards. It is an honor for me to provide the correspondence of the editorial policy to the European standards”.
Member of the European Parliament Arne Gericke: “It is an honor for me to become a member of this board. I will do everything in my power to help in the provision of the standards of freedom of speech, which act in the west. I hope that I will be able to help in any way. Freedom of speech is important for everyone. And it is important that Ukraine moves in this direction”.
In his turn, Chief Producer of 112 Ukraine TV channel Artem Marchevskyi revealed how the editorial board is established. “The quote of the owner of the TV channel makes 50% and the other part is the quote of the channel’s team. Three MEPs entered the membership of the editorial board on the quote of the owner: Nathan Gill, Arne Gericke and David Coburn. Artem Marchevskyi, Yehor Benkendorf and Oleh Voloshyn entered the board on the quote of the tem. I promise we will continue to fight and we will win.
Three MEPs also entered the editorial board of NewsOne TV channel as well as Director General Yuriy Budyak, Chief Producer Vasyl Holovanov and international journalist Oleh Voloshyn.
