More than 66 thousand polling stations opened in France and its overseas regions

Polling stations are open in France today to elect the new president. This was reported by Le Figaro.

More than 66.5 thousand polling sites were opened for voting in the first election round in the country at 8 a.m. local time (9 a.m. Kyiv time). Most of the stations will be closed at 7 p.m. local time (8 p.m. Kyiv), however some of them will stay until 8 p.m. in a number of cities. 

45.67 million voters are registered on the French territory and 1.3 million of French people living abroad.

Voting in French overseas departments took place on Friday.

11 candidates are fighting for the presidential post. According to latest surveys, five candidates remain the favorites of presidential race — Emmanuel Macron, the Former French Minister of the Economy, Finance and Industry, leader of En Marche party, Marine Le Pen, the leader of the National Front, François Fillon, the Former Prime Minister of France, candidate from Republicans party, French politician Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of La France insoumise party and Benoit Hamon, the member of the Socialist Party.
