The chiefs of two congressional committees, Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson, have asked U.S. Attorney General William Barr to investigate ties between Ukrainian authorities and member of Democratic Party Hillary Clinton during the 2016 presidential election. The congressmen's letter to Barr was made public on Senator Grassley's website.
"Senator Grassley's letter of July 20, 2017, highlighted the brazen efforts of Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton Campaign to use the government of Ukraine for the express purpose of finding negative information on then-candidate Trump to undermine his campaign", - the US parliamentarians said.
They noted that the Department of Justice had not yet informed the Congress and the public about the start of the investigation into Clinton's ties with the government of Ukraine.
Grassley and Johnson, referring the letter, noted that during the 2016 presidential election, Ukrainian officials tried to help Hillary Clinton undermine Donald Trump's election campaign by spreading documents related to allegations of corruption regarding Trump’s assistant Paul Manafort.
Ukrainian officials offered their assistance in investigating the case.
Senators request Barr to inform on verification of information stated in the document by October 14.
As we reported earlier, an American political scientist, the head of Donald Trump's presidential election campaign, Paul Manafort, was sentenced on March, 13 to 7.5 years in prison following the investigation into Robert Muller's interference in the 2016 presidential election.
