The EU might impose sanctions on Ukraine in case Ukrainian citizens violate EU migration rules or otherwise abuse the visa free regime. Iryna Gerashchenko, Ukraine’s Vice Speaker said this while talking to the press in Kyiv on Thursday.

‘We’ve got to work more to improve the Ukrainian economy, and that would help people to earn enough money for traveling. Visa free regime is also a responsibility to adhere to EU migration rules. If we violate these rules, there could be penalty sanctions and, eventually, closure of this visa free regime,’ she said.

Earlier today, the European Parliament voted for visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens; 521 MEPs supported the decision. Now, it’s up to EU ambassadors to approve it, which is expected on April 26.
