As of 6:00 pm, February 24, 229 cases of COVID-2019 coronavirus infection were recorded in Italy. Ukraine's Ambassador to Italy Yevhen Perelyhin announced this during a briefing, which was broadcasted by 112 Ukraine TV Channel.
"As of 18:00, there were 229 infected people in Italy, 172 of them were in the Lombardy region, 32 in Veneto and the rest in Emilia-Romagna, Piedmont and Lazio. All 229 of them were non-Ukrainian citizens. Citizens of Ukraine did not contact embassies or consulates general," the ambassador said.
He also noted that the embassy had liaised with headquarters in two quarantined provinces that day and was working with Lombardy and Veneto regional authorities.
As we reported earlier, Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs knows about 15,632 citizens of Ukraine registered in Italy as of January 1, 2020. 9,158 of them are registered in Milan consulate.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health has decided to start temperature screening at Ukrainian border posts where passengers from Italy arrive.
