Ukraine has sent an official letter to NATO to include it in the Enhanced Opportunities program and provide it the status of a special partner. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry noted that such cooperation will bring the country's defense system to NATO standards,  reported the correspondent of "112 Ukraine" TV channel in Brussels (Belgium).

"President Petro Poroshenko made the statement that Ukraine aspires to the status of  so-called special partner even at the NATO summit in Warsaw (Poland). Now Ukraine has sent an official letter to NATO. According to Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vadym Prystayko, this collaboration will bring the standards and the overall work of the Ukrainian defense system to NATO standards.

It is actually a membership without formal membership status. If Ukraine manages to get this status and to work on such a program, it will help much faster to become a future member of NATO, "- said the reporter.

Currently this program of Enhanced Opportunities for special partners is used by such  countries as Sweden and Finland. At the summit in Warsaw Geprgia also received an offer to use it.

It is noted that one of the obstacles for Ukraine in obtaining the status of a special partner of the Alliance is the absence of an agreement on the exchange of secret information. According to the Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine, as early as next week in the NATO headquarters in Brussels, such an agreement will be signed and the obstacle will be removed.
