The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko insists on adoption of amendments to the Constitution in the part of the consolidation of the strategic direction of Ukraine toward EU and NATO membership, as he said at the meeting of the National Security and Defence Council, broadcasted on 112.Ukraine.

“Today, Ukraine’s aspirations toward establishing closer relationships with the North Atlantic Alliance acquired a new form. Only after Ukraine “drops anchor in the NATO bay”, we will reflect Kremlin’s desire to provoke the escalation on the Ukrainian direction. I hope, we will do that at the level of the Ukrainian legislation, right after the next session of the Verkhovna Rada is opened,” Poroshenko said.

He stressed that in February, he would ask the Ukrainian Parliament to “vote for the amendments to the Constitution, which declare our course towards membership in the European Union and NATO”.

Earlier, on November 22, Ukraine’s Parliament supported the draft amendment to the Constitution on Ukraine’s foreign policy, in particular, the intentions to become a member of the EU and NATO.
