Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko called on the German Parliament to recognize Holodomor as the act of genocide against Ukrainian people. He said this during the meeting with President of Bundestag Norbert Lammert, according to the press service of the head of state.

“President addressed the German Parliament with the request to recognize Holodomor as the act of genocide against Ukrainian people,” the message says.

Head of State reported about escalation in Donbas and continuing hybrid aggression from the Russian side. The interlocutors stressed the importance of preserving the unity and collective efficient response to the current threats for peace and security.

Poroshenko expressed his gratitude for the Lammert’s strong position in support of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine as well as non-recognition of the Crimea annexation by Russia. The sides have emphasized the importance of supporting sanctions against Russia until the full implementation of Minsk agreement.

The interlocutors also discussed Ukrainian progress on its way to reforms and according capacities of Bundestag to support Ukrainian authorities in this direction.

Poroshenko and Lammert stressed the importance of accelerating the visa-free regime implementation for Ukrainians and the ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and EU.
