President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier discussed the new escalation of Russia's aggression in Donbas, reports the press service of the President of Ukraine.
Poroshenko stressed the leading role of Germany and its political leadership in the process of restoring sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. The two sides discussed in detail the new escalation of Russia's aggression in Donbas. Particular attention was paid to the aggravation of the humanitarian situation in the area of Avdiivka where Russian fighters continued to bombard civilian targets, and in particular to block access to the filtration plant that threatens the water supply of the whole region.
Poroshenko also expressed the hope that the so-called "Crimean package" of sanctions will be extended in March.
The parties welcomed the progress made between the Council, the European Commission and the European Parliament for a visa-free regime for Ukrainian citizens and expressed the hope that this issue will be formalized in the near future.
