Poland has renewed pressure on the European Commission so that it would not provide favorable conditions for the construction of second Nord Stream, which connects Russia and Germany through the Baltic Sea, Polske Radio informs.
According to the message, Warsaw is convinced that all the rules of EU must be applied to this investment without exception. "If this happened, the building of gas pipe would be economically irrational," the message reads.
At the same time it was noted that this question was discussed during the meeting of European Energy Ministers in Brussels today. Polish Minister claimed that the position of his government is not changing. The gas pipe reaching EU must comply with European legislation and European Commission has to clearly admit it, according to him.
The Commission of the European Union is not quite consistent in this case. On the one hand, commissioners criticize the construction of Nord Stream 2, saying the project contradicts the principles of energy union as it does not lead to diversification of gas suppliers. On the other hand, the commission has not taken any measures in this direction.
