In the first half of 2019, Ukrainians traveled to Poland almost 5 million times, but the number of refusals to cross the border increased by 12% compared to last year. This is stated by the Polish Border Guard, Europe without barriers reports.

It is noted that for the six months of 2019, Ukrainians received permission to cross the border 27,923 times. Director of Europe without barriers NGO Iryna Sushko said that such indicators are quite predictable. Indeed, with the beginning of a visa-free regime with the EU, all refusals to cross the border moved from the stage of obtaining a visa directly to the border.

“Actually, if we take the data for 2016, before visa-free travel, add the visa refusals at the border and compare with the similar data for 2018, we will see that the total number of refusals has even decreased,” says Iryna Sushko.

For comparison: in 2016, 45,800 citizens of Ukraine were denied in obtaining a Schengen visa, in 2018, there were 8,600 of them. In 2016, 27 700 citizens were refused entry at the border, in 2018 - 57 600.

It is reported that despite the growth of failures at the border, the number of visits to Poland increased by 250,000, including by air - from 157,000 to 312,000.

Among the main reasons for the refusal, border guards highlight the lack of documents, which determine the purpose and conditions of stay, and the lack of necessary funds.
