There's nothing that impedes the action of the EU-Ukraine visa-free regime. Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy said so at the briefing with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba. The two officials met in Kyiv on September 22, Ukrinform agency reports.
"As for the postponing of the visa-free regime, the EU has a respective mechanism, and regular reports are being prepared within it, stating whether all demands were adhered to. The last such report dates back to July 20, and it confirms that Ukraine meets all the criteria related to the visa-free regime. It's still true", Borrell said.
At that, Borrell mentioned that the Ukrainian government is urged to provide independent work of anti-corruption bodies and to avoid politicization of law enforcement bodies, as the EU report stated.
Dmytro Kuleba, on his behalf, claimed that his country was interested in the functioning of the independent anti-corruption infrastructure.
Earlier, the European Parliament stated that the EU-Ukraine visa-free regime could be canceled due to the issues with a contest for the office of the head of the SAPO, Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.
