Compared to the electoral indicators in the first round two weeks ago, voter turnout this time is a little lower: the rate was 28.54% back then.

Independent centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron and far-right Marine Le Pen made it to the second leg of presidential election in France – with 24 and 21.3 percent of voters, respectively.

It should be noted that liberal Macron reinforced his popularity in the last days of presidential campaign during the cogent speech at television debates with Le Pen, who, according to the observers’ evaluation, seemed unconfident, DW specified.

Beyond that, leaks from Macron HQ were made public on the night of May 6 as a result of hackers’ attack. It is yet unknown whether it would have any impact on the results of Sunday voting.

While former Minister of Economy Macron advocates for the further liberalization of economy and investment in education system, Marine Le Pen promises to swap euro for parallel national currency and transform European Union into alliance of independent states or fully withdraw from it.

Earlier it was reported that voting on French oversees territories — Saint-Pierre and Miquelon Islands — already started in terms of the second round of the presidential election in France due to significant time difference between the time zones. First preliminary result will be available right after the voting stations are closed.

According to the polls made earlier, Macron would get 62 percent of the votes in the runoff while Le Pen could count on 38.
