Merkel explains why she did not invite Zelensky to Berlin

Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel explained why she decided to invite current President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko to Berlin and his opponent in the second round of elections Volodymyr Zelensky. Merkel stated this during the session, responding to the question of a journalist, broadcasted by 112.Ukraine.

The journalist also reminded the German Chancellor that French President Emmanuel Macron would meet both competitors for the presidential office in Paris on April 12.

“I have decided to invite Mr. President (Poroshenko – red.), as I constantly keep in touch with him, we met at the Munich security conference, we often meet with other, we always exchange thoughts. During the elections I decided to invite him because the communication with him is very important to me,” Merkel said.

Earlier, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel during their meeting supported the implementation of the ‘Easter armistice’ in Donbas from April 18.
