Estonian diplomat Matti Maasikas is assigned to the position of the Head of European Union Delegation in Ukraine, as the European External Action Service informs.
Maasikas was the Head of Estonian Delegation in EU from 2011 to 2016. Currently, he holds the rank of the Deputy Minister on EU affairs in Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia.
Hugues Mingarelli’s replacement by Maasikas is a part of the planned rotation.
Mingarelli became the EU ambassador in Ukraine in July 2016. Swede Peter Semneby also competed for the same position. Before his assignment, Mingarelli was involved in the politics of East Europe’s countries, including Ukraine, from 2002 to 2011.
