The Latvian government has called for the rehabilitation and treatment of Ukrainian sailors. This was announced by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky after meeting with Latvian President Egils Levits.
"Latvian government has invited Ukrainian sailors, who have returned from detention, for rehabilitation and treatment. I want to express my sincere gratitude for such indifference and support," the President said.
Zelensky also thanked his Latvian counterpart for his assistance in implementing European standards in Ukraine on the basis of the Association Agreement with the EU, as well as for his assistance in reforming the Armed Forces in compliance with NATO standards.
"A separate topic of today's conversation is the assets of the criminal origin associated with Ukrainian ex-officials, which were withdrawn from Ukraine to Latvian banks. We are set up for active bilateral cooperation here. This also applies to the return of these assets, for which there is already a specific court’s decision. And it also applies to the search for other assets that could be illegally withdrawn from Ukraine to Latvia," Zelensky stated.
The Ukrainian president also stated that Ukraine and Latvia have agreed to continue the coordinated interaction of states in the international institutes of the UN, the Council of Europe, the OSCE, as well as in the formats of inter-parliamentary interaction.
