Klimkin: Ukraine cannot get visa-free regime due to EU weakness

Foreign Minister called the delay of visa-free regime cancellation mechanism a weakness

The delay in the negotiations on the mechanism to respond to the risks of migration shows the EU's institutional weakness. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin wrote this on Twitter.

"A significant delay in the negotiation mechanism to respond to the risks of migration shows the institutional weakness of the EU. It seems Brussels understands this", wrote the Head of the Foreign Ministry.

Note, the EU development mechanism is associated with the provision of termination of visa-free regime it to Ukraine. The ambassadors of the EU countries have approved the start of the visa liberalization for Ukraine discussion. They noted that the entry into force of the visa-free regime for Ukraine should take place simultaneously with the entry into force of the new mechanism of its cancellation.

On its basis the negotiations with the European Parliament will be initiated.

At today's summit Ukraine and the European Union institutions leaders have confirmed that Ukraine has fulfilled all the requirements and can get visa liberalization by the end of the year. The head of the European Council Donald Tusk hopes that the process of developing a mechanism for suspending visa-free regime can be developed this year.
