The European Commission assumes there is still a chance for Ukraine top get the visa free regime by the end of 2016. Jean Claude Juncker, the Commission’s president, said this at a Thursday press conference.
‘In spite of the difficulties and contradictions that could appear between some EU member countries, we will be able to grant the visa free regime by the end of the year. We just need the Council and the European Parliament to agree on the mechanism of visa free regime’s delay. That’s not about Ukraine, that’s more up to EU member countries, and we’re working on this visa free regime,’ Juncker stressed.
Previously, Radio Liberty’s Rikard Jozwiak said the EU could delay the visa-free regime with Ukraine until May 2017.
Earlier today, EU ambassadors approved the beginning of the visa liberalization process for Ukraine. They admitted that the introduction of the visa free regime will take place simultaneously with the new mechanism of its cancelation.
