Today’s ratification of EU-Ukraine Association Agreement is ‘an important signal from the Netherlands – and the entire EU – to Ukraine’. Head of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker said that as quoted by European External Action Service on May 30.
‘Ukraine is part of Europe, its future lies with Europe. I am grateful to the Dutch government and political parties’ leadership for their efforts that made it possible to complete this procedure. This document that includes creating deep and comprehensive free trade area is now closer to ratification. I hope the procedure will be over before EU-Ukraine Summit in July,’ Juncker said.
The EEAS added that the Netherlands are now obliged to complete the process of ratification within the national legal framework. That includes signature of the King, publication in the official newspaper and passing the document for storage at the EU Council’s Secretariat General. Then, the EU has to pass its documents regarding the ratification procedure to the Secretariat General.
The Agreement will take effect on the first day of the second month since the day when the last document was passed for storage in the Secretariat General.
