Israeli Embassy in Ukraine has announced the closure of a diplomatic mission following the decision of the Israeli Ministry of Finance. This is stated on the embassy's Facebook page.
"Because of the Israeli Ministry’s of Finance decision to violate arrangements that were agreed and signed by the Director-General of Ministry of Finance on July 21, 2019, and to apply a one-sided procedure that changes the protocol, which has been in place for several decades, we have to close a diplomatic mission. No consular services will be provided and no one will be allowed to enter the Embassy/Consulship," the statement said.
The diplomatic agency added that they were forced to take such measures because "the vital interests of the State of Israel were harmed”.
"Israeli diplomats have a duty to constantly strive to increase Israel's strength and resilience. Unfortunately, the decision of the Ministry of Finance leaves us no choice but to take the named measures as the vital interests of the State of Israel were harmed. We hope that this crisis will be resolved as soon as possible," the message says.
Foreign Ministry and Israeli Defense Ministry officials started a strike today in Israeli diplomatic missions abroad. Consular services stopped, checkpoints closed at the Palestinian border.
The conflict was caused by the decision of the Ministry of Finance to levy a tax on representative expenses of diplomats, which were not backed by receipts. In a joint statement of the Foreign Ministry and Defense Ministry Working Committees on Monday evening, the move was described as a serious blow to Israeli diplomatic and military representatives' emolument.
