The European Commission has approved the issuance of 37 million Euros to fund the 2018 Program of Technical Cooperation. This is part of the comprehensive procedure foreseen by the provisions of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. The respective agreement was signed by the European Commission and the Ukrainian government within the 5th session of Ukraine-EU Association Council in Brussels on Monday.
According to Yevropeiska Pravda, the funding is supposed to cover the needs of Ukrainian institutions in the strengthening of democratic principles, human rights and basic freedoms.
The assistance will be provided in the following areas:
- strengthening of the institutional capability of the Ukrainian government to implement the EU norms in the Ukrainian law in such fields as the environment, energy, transport, sanitary and phytosanitary control, accounting, standardization, e-communication and security;
- development of the Ukrainian legal framework;
- the increase of role of the government and the NGOs in human rights protection activities.
Besides, part of the sum will go to cover the needs of Ukraine's participation in the EU's Horizon 2020 program.
Previously, Petro Poroshenko said EU-Ukraine Association Agreement is only completed by 15 percent.
The Agreement took effect in September 2017.
