Ukrzaliznytsia company, the state-run railway carrier reports that in 2018, EU became the most popular railway transportation direction in Ukraine.
Oleksandr Krasnoshtan, the chief manager of Ukrzaliznytsia company explained that Riga, Przemysl, Kosice and Warsaw are now among the most popular foreign directions among passengers from Ukraine. Ekonomichna Pravda outlet quoted him as saying.
Before 2017, it was Russia; now, the popularity belongs to the EU cities, the official said.
In September, the first ride of the 'train of four capitals' took place, linking Kyiv, Minsk, Vilnius and Riga.
Ukrzaliznytsia earlier reported it would work on the resume of a railway connection between Kyiv and Berlin in 2019. Yevhen Kravtsov, Acting Chairman of the Executive Board of the company claimed this, according to the website of the enterprise.
‘Ukrzaliznytsia moves forward with confidence in the direction of increasing the number of trains in the EU. As a result, we have the growing number of passengers by more than two times. 270 thousand passengers traveled to the EU over the last eight months, it is 110 percent more than for eight months of the previous year. It is a significant record not only for us, as a transportation company but for Ukraine in general, as a sign unity of Ukraine with the European space. We set ourselves new goals, including the resume of train Kyiv-Berlin. We will do our best to launch the train yet the next year,’ Kravtsov said.
