The law about the ratification of EU-Ukraine Association Agreement is expected to be published at the Dutch Ministry’s website today, June 14.
The Ministry signed the document yesterday; now, after the official release, the law will be passed to Brussels for the EU Council’s approval. After that, the document will take effect.
After the Dutch referendum on the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement that took place in spring 2016, Netherlands remained the only EU member country that did not ratify the deal with Ukraine. back then, most of the respondents said ‘no’ to the document, and the parliamentary opposition at first refused to approve it. However, by joint efforts of the Dutch government and pro-government forces in the Parliament, the process was speeded up and eventually ended up in the ratification of the document.
The Association Agreement foresees political and economic association of Ukraine and the European Union, without any close prospects of full-fledged membership of Ukraine in the EU.
