Ukraine’s Ministry of Health is initiating an increase in the salaries of medical workers starting from July 1. It will amount to 50% and will require an allocation of additional 407,7 million dollars from the state budget. This was reported by the press service of the Healthcare Ministry.
According to Stepanov, the medical reform in its current form provides the dismissal of about 50,000 health workers and the closure of 332 hospitals.
"If nothing is changed, the mass dismissal will lead to a catastrophic increase in mortality, the rapid spread of diseases such as tuberculosis. Access of millions of Ukrainians to normal health care will become more difficult," Healthcare Minister Maksym Stepanov said.
As we reported earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called on Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov, chairman of the relevant committee of the Verkhovna Rada and Chief Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko to immediately make proposals for improving the second phase of medical reform.
“We do not need to curtail the reform but it has to be improved. Admitting mistakes and correcting them. I’m sure that there is one global requirement, and it’s very simple: both patients and physicians of all levels should be happy with the reform," Zelensky said.
