British destroyer to enter port of Odesa for the first time in 10 years

Britain will enhance cooperation with the Ukrainian naval forces

The British destroyer HMS Dauntless (D33) Type 45 will enter port of Odesa until the end of the year. This was stated by Secretary of State for Defence of the United Kingdom Michael Fallon after the meeting with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Stepan Poltorak, as it was reported on the official website of the Ministry of Defense.

"This will be the first time in 10 years when Great Britain’s ship enters Ukraine,” Fallon said.

He also stressed that the United Kingdom is providing assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"During our meeting with the Minister of Defense of Ukraine we had the opportunity to discuss the state of implementation of joint projects, as well as made a decision on the further expansion of several of them. In particular, we are talking about the project to attract instructors from the UK for the military training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as the expansion of this project to all branches of the armed forces. It was decided to extend the training program from April this year to March 2018,” Fallon said.

UK Secretary for Defence also informed about the expansion of cooperation between the naval forces of the two countries. According to him, it is, in particular, about the exchange of visits by senior Navy commanders.

"The UK remains committed to helping Ukraine on its way to protect the territorial integrity and sovereignty. We will deal with the question of extension of sanctions against the Russian Federation until the full implementation of all provisions of the Minsk Agreement,” Fallon said.
