The Association Agreement between the European Union and Ukraine enters into force on September 1. This Agreement, including the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas, is the prime tool of the rapprochement of Ukraine and the EU. The President of the European Commission Jean Claude Juncker noted that this is a celebration day for the whole Europe. The press service of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine reported this.

With the entry into force of the Association Agreement with Ukraine, the European Union is delivering on its promise to our Ukrainian friends. I thank all those who made it possible: those who stood on Maidan and those who are working hard to reform the country for the better. This is a day of celebration for our European continent."
As the EU Delegation to Ukraine noted free trade open the markets for Ukraine. It furthers the adaptation of the legislation, standards and regulations to the EU norms and the international norms. The Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas is the basis for the modernization of the trade relations and economic development of Ukraine.
According to the Association Agreement, Ukraine took the obligation to hold the structural reforms in such spheres as the democracy, human rights, supremacy of law, quality government control, trade and sustainable development.
The Association Agreement also provides the increase cooperation on such issues as environmental protection, social process, social safety, transport, consumer rights protection, equal possibilities, education, youth and culture, industry and energy. The entry into force of this Agreement will give momentum for the cooperation in the spheres of the external security policy, justice, tax assessment, public finance management, science and technologies, education and digital technologies.
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini noted that the Association Agreement provided Ukraine with more possibilities for business and the entrepreneurs, the exchange of the experience and information will become more active’. Mogherini emphasized that ‘we share the common goals’ and she noted that the citizens of Ukraine can count on support and cooperation with the EU in the next years.
The European Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn emphasized that the firstlings of the association are already seen because the Ukrainian export to the EU increased and the EU confirmed the status of the biggest trade partner of Ukraine.
Ukraine and the EU held the negotiations towards the Association Agreement during 2007-2011. They signed the Agreement on March 21 and June 27, 2014. The prominent part of the Agreement was changed on the temporary basis since November 1, 2014 and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Areas began to temporary change since January 1, 2016.
