April Fool's Day
The most common theory is that April Fool's Day originated in France. Until 1582, French people celebrated New Year in spring - from March 25 to April 1. However, after the Gregorian calendar was introduced, the New Year holidays moved to current date - January 1. Due to poor communication, this news did not reach everyone and many continued to celebrate the New Year as before. Educated citizens started to make fun of those who remained ignorant: the most popular prank was to stick the paper fish to the back of such person and make fun of him calling him Poisson d'Avril (‘April fish’).
Supposedly, this holiday came to Ukraine from Germany at the beginning of 18th century. It was called a day of lies, or Maria the Liar — one of the popular nicknames of Mary of Egypt — a saint, whose day of commemoration by the old style coincides with April 1. On this day, the girls deceived guys to manipulate future husband.
International Children's Book Day

World Health Day
World Health Day is on Tuesday, April 7. It will be the day to celebrate the work of nurses and midwives and remind world leaders of the critical role they play in keeping the world healthy (when it is unhealthy to the utmost, - sarcasm!).
Day of Workers of Rocket and Space Industry
The holiday was established to honor the flight of the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, who was the first person in the world who made an orbital flight around the Earth. On April 12, 1961, Gagarin on Vostok-1 spacecraft took off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome and became the first person ever to fly to space. His flight in near-space lasted 108 minutes.
Employees of space and rocket industry annually receive congratulations from the government representatives, local authorities and heads of the institutions on this day.
April 12 was also the date of the first Space Shuttle launch, STS-1 of Columbia in 1981, which is also commemorated on this date.
World Rock and Roll Day
April 13 is considered the World Rock and Roll Day, and April 15 is the Universal Day of Culture.
It’s a day to celebrate the best music and the Rock ‘N’ Roll lifestyle. Rock music originated in America in the 1950s and has shaped every generation since.
Again, no rock festivals this year.

International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day
April 26 is one of the most tragic days in the history of Ukraine. On this day in 1986, an explosion occurred at the fourth power unit of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The accident became the largest man-made disaster in the history of atoms of peace as many people fell victim or got ill. Prypyat city, once prosperous, eventually became a ghost town.
The end of the month will be marked by a more cheerful holiday - the world will celebrate International Day of Dance on April 29.

At the fourth reactor of the Chernobyl protective arch was set.
