The decision on borrowing was taken at today meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
The funds are to be invested in the district heating and hot water systems, centralized and decentralized water supply, drainage, buildings’ energy efficiency, street lighting, and handling of waste.
"This will renovate the obsolete infrastructure, and advance the quality of public services,” as said in the Ministerial statement.
Board of directors of EIB agreed to grant a 1 bln EUR credit as part of a 3 bln EUR package of special measures for 2014-2016.
EIB funds Ukrainian projects on the basis of the EU Council and EU parliament mandate. EIB finances projects connected with private sector development, social and economic infrastructure, climate change.
