311 new infections with coronavirus were recorded per day in Turkey. This means an almost double increase in the total number of infections, Hurriyet daily news reports.
Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca stated that the death toll in Turkey due to coronavirus rose to nine after five elderly patients died from a contagious respiratory disease.
“As of midnight today, the citizens aged 65 and over and also people who suffer from chronic illnesses are restricted to go out of their homes and to walk in open areas such as parks, gardens,” the interior ministry said in a statement.
The number of confirmed cases in the country has increased since the announcement of the first case last week, reaching 670 on March 20. The number of cases has nearly doubled every day since March 15th.
According to Koca, over the past 24 hours, 3656 tests have been conducted, 311 of which were positive.
Separately, the Ministry of Health of Turkey stated that all hospitals, including private ones, will have to accept and treat suspected patients with the new coronavirus.
The ministry also announced any hospital that has at least two specialists in infectious diseases, pulmonology or internal medicine, open to patients with coronavirus to ease the burden on medical facilities and staff.
