Zorya Luhansk out of UEFA Europa League, losing to Espanyol after two legs

Viktor Skrypnyk's team scored twice but allowed two goals as well, which prevented it from proceeding in the European tournament

Zaporizhya city hosted the game of UEFA Europa League's qualification playoffs; Zorya Luhansk played against RCD Espanyol.

The home team realized that crushing attacks were the only chance to beat the opponent and to proceed. Viktor Skrypnyk's team went for pressing tactics, using their every opportunity to attack. However, Espanyol was the one to open the score with Facundo Ferreira's header. The Argentinian celebrated his 12th goal against this particular team.

Zorya managed to recover in the second half. Espanyol lost the ball after tough pressing from the home team, and Bohdan Lednyov equalized the score (1-1). Soon after that, Matias Vargas beat Mykyta Shevchenko and made it 2-1. Zorya returned the favor once again, thanks to the efforts of Nazariy Rusyn.

Losing to Espanyol in the first leg (3-1), Zorya lost on the aggregate of two games (5-3). It now leaves UEFA Europa League. Dynamo Kyiv and Oleksandriya will represent Ukraine in the group stage of the competition.
